"Elephants!" or "NO! I want COLOR!"

I asked my friend to give me a warmup doodle before I began work in earnest on the iPlates:Vol III cover. He told me his daughter requested an elephant family at the zoo. I knocked this out playing with a brush I rarely use on Photoshop and was really pleased with how it came out. I passed it along:

Unfortunately it failed to please his little girl. Three years old and as is typical of the age, utterly without empathy.

"I wanna see the zoo with it. I wanna see all the colors."

"Oh but it's nice isn't it?"

"No it's not!"

I went back to the sketch and spent a little more time working on it.. No word yet on if she approves but I think she's right. Needed some color.
